"I've built my entire career on my instincts"
I have a friend—an artist. He built a $150 million company. Now he prioritizes his art.
Recently, we were considering an opportunity together. On paper, it made sense. But in reality, it didn’t feel right.
We were meeting in his studio, and I’ll never forget what he told me.
“Zack, I’ve built my entire career on my instincts. They have never steered me wrong. If we feel it’s not right, we have to trust that.”
I’ve built my entire career on my instincts. What a stunning statement. It’s so good, I wish I said it myself.
We have to trust that.
And we did. We turned it down.
And shortly after, another more aligned opportunity emerged.
That’s how I live these days too. My instincts lead. My heart and gut hold more authority than my mind. And yet, in this mind-dominated world, I’ve noticed that, for many, intuition is not enough.
They need a logical reason. A mental narrative to validate what they already Know is true. It has to make sense in their thoughts—even when it makes perfect sense to their hearts and their souls.
This theme is naturally showing up in my work with clients. I’m helping some extraordinary people normalize making decisions simply because they feel right. And letting that be the only reason they need. No further justification required. No need to make a cognitive case for or against intuitive wisdom.
I believe it is far more important to Know intuitively than to know mentally, and to follow that Knowing. We don’t always need to understand—we just need to act on what we Know and trust the rest.
And intuition isn’t just for artists, mystics, and dreamers—it’s a crucial tool in some of the most technical, high-stakes professions. Even in fields dominated by logic, data, and analysis, from medicine and trial law to special operations and investing, many of the best professionals acknowledge the power of intuition and “gut feelings.”
Not everyone will accept this. If even we ourselves can’t always understand why we feel the way we do, we can’t expect others to. And that’s fine. They don’t need to understand our choices, and we are not obligated to making sure they do.
Living this way is living freely. Powerfully. Beautifully.
It is moving in sync with an intelligence far greater than our conditioned thought patterns. It is walking in alignment with universal intelligence—God’s will.
And it takes time. Many of us have been distanced from our intuition. It’s still there, speaking to us, but we’ve forgotten how to listen.
And sometimes we listen, but we’ve forgotten how to follow.
And sometimes we know how to follow, but we’re afraid to.
So we practice. We Know, act, and trust.
The more we do, the more we sharpen our internal compass. The more we learn to read it and trust the direction it’s guiding us in.
Because, like my friend said, it will never steer you wrong.
