The Most Unadvised Course Launch Ever
How I built my business by ignoring most business advice
I’ve built my entire business, in it’s current form, from a place of abundance.
This was not always the case.
When I first became an entrepreneur, there were less business “coaches,” but they were out there. I had never run a business before, aside from a DJ business in college, so I hired one. I paid him $700 a week to bestow his knowledge unto me.
He has gone on to become one of, if not the, biggest business influencers out there.
Most of what he had to say made my body contract, a sign I’ve come to understand as “no.”
Yet, I followed much of his advice because I was young, looking to an expert, and didn’t yet understand how important it was to listen to myself more than anyone else.
Some of the strategies worked. I saw results, for sure. But results are not synonymous with success.
To me, even the most extraordinary results are not a success if they require you to go against yourself and your truth. It’s a conversation, to this day, I have with many clients who come to me feeling the friction of living out of alignment with who they are. The same friction I felt then, when I listened to someone with questionable ethics who was clearly not happy themselves.
Over the years, I’ve seen a multitude of other business “coaches” (I will continue to put that in quotes because they aren’t coaching) start to say the same stuff. They’re all regurgitating the same information in the same ways.
And those things are based on pain, urgency, scarcity, and lack. Dig into their pain points. Sell them the solution to their pain. Only three spots available. 75% when you act NOW. $1k off when you PIF (pay in full). You can stay stuck forever or you can wOrK wItH ME.
And I still get the DMs all the time. Can you handle 30 more clients? We’ll fill your calendar with leads. Here’s some unsolicited feedback about your website. Time for a quick chat?
No. No. No.
I’ll tell you this. My coaching practice reached an entirely new level when I started doing the opposite of all of this. When I started doing what was true for me.
See, all of these antiquated marketing and sales tactics are based on manipulation and fear. My business, my brand, does not stand for manipulation or fear. It stands for the opposite. Abundance. Ease. Gratitude. Well-being. Honoring the wisdom of each and every person and their ability to know what’s right for them.
So I started doing the opposite of the business advice I received.
I replaced my sales calls with actual coaching sessions, where I deeply served people without the expectation of anything in return.
I replaced incentivizing speed with encouraging slowness. I told people to take their time. Let me know when you do. No rush.
I started charging the same for payment plans as full price, because the value of the service is the same either way.
I started asking people about their lives and what was important to them. What they loved. What they cared about. Not their “pain points,” but their dreams.
I invited people to step into possibility, rather than avoid fear.
My coaching business elevated along with my frequency.
I was running my business from abundance. The result was abundance.
Most importantly, I was running my business in alignment with my truth. I was operating my business the way I lived.
Fast forward several years to today. I just launched my first online course, bringing the teachings of my book and the insights from my work with clients to life.
Almost like an old habit, I looked to what others had to say about launching a course. You know, the experts.
There’s a business writer and educator who I like. A lot of his stuff resonates. I checked out what he had to say.
It was the same stuff as before. The same stuff as everyone.
Pain. Urgency. Scarcity. Lack. Automations. Speed.
I laughed. It was a reminder, once again, to listen to myself. This time, that decision came right away.
So here’s the most unadvised course launch ever.
I created this course from my heart, based partly on years of personal and professional experience, and mostly on what comes through me in moments of deep stillness and peace.
There are unlimited spots. There will always be room for you.
It’s $50, but if that’s prohibitive you can pay whatever you wish.
If it’s for you, you’ll Know. You don’t need me to tell you.
It’s called The Inner Freedom Experience. If you’re interested in learning more, click here.
As always, thanks for reading what I write.
