Episode 10: Mitch

Dr. Mitchell Gillard, MD is a board certified emergency medicine physician in Nashville, Tennessee. He is Assistant Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is one of my closest friends.

Mitch sees and does things on a daily basis that most people never see or do in their lifetime. He works in the extremes of the human condition.

One one end, he sees people on their worst days. He breaks the worst news. He witnesses profound pain. He sees people who’ve experienced the things we all hope to never experience. He runs toward what many wish to avoid at all costs.

On the other, he brings people back from death. He saves lives. He provides relief. He gives hope. He reassures. He treats. He holds and he heals. He makes decisions in seconds that give people years… years they never would have had, full of experiences they never would have had.

Mitch provides a service to humanity that society depends on, deeply. It’s the type of service that goes far beyond a job. It’s a calling.

One of the things I admire most is how Mitch strives to be the best he can be not only professionally, but also personally. This has led him to work with me, where I had the honor of witnessing his courage and his growth like never before. As a result, Mitch has gone on to widely promote the benefits that therapy and coaching can have on mental and emotional health, relationships, and quality of life.

Mitch and I went to college together and formed a bond that has lasted ever since.
I’m proud to call him my friend, and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to tap into his wisdom and share it with the world in this episode.
